Restoration of the Gate 1 Security Entrance is a work in progress by InfoAge members with major help from Jeff Sidel.

A new roof for 9093 thanks to the hard work of Jeff Seidel and friends. Jeff was given the roof materials by GAF and
financil support by the Wall Kiwanis Club.
The Gate 1 Security Entrance is one of Camp Evans most recently built historic buildings.
It was built in response to security conserns raised after Senator Joe McCarthy's 1953 visit.
We attempted to paint the building in 1999 when the paint was fair condition. We were
only able to paint the interior hall and the exterior of the building before BRAC ordered us to stop.
We were insured, we offered to sign hold harmless agreements and finally under threat of
arrest for trespassing we figured we would wait until the 2001 transfer. The transfer did
not occur until September 2005. By then the building was a mess.
During the removal of an underground storage tank the water line was cut. Rather that fix the line,
the line was capped and the hole backfilled. We plan to dig up the line and repair it in 2007.
The sewer line lateral was not connected when the sewer main line was replaced. We plan to
dig the 9 feet down to make this repair also. The BRAC office refused to connect this building
and seven others to the septic system when the lines were escavated and the cost would have
been minimal. Now we must escavate a third time to accomplish what could have been done the
first time.
Also the heating system was removed from the building.
This is the condition the BRAC office tranfered the Security building in 2005.
Before BRAC the building was in use and well maintained.
After BRAC - Not ready for reuse....
No heat, no water service, no sewer line connection and leaks in the roof.

Gutters full, vines growing up the siding, roof leaking. This is a March 2004 photo
InfoAge goes to work to preserve this building.
