Space Sentry Radar

SPACE SENTRY RADAR - Towering in the foreground is the
U. S. Army's new, powerful space sentry radar located here.
Space sentry was used last January to insure close and accurate
tracking of the Army's Explorer satellite by calibrating
the minitrack equipment throughout the Western Hemisphere
and the west coast of Africa.  The 50-foot Diana radar is
shown in the background.  (U.S. Army photograph.)

**Web editor's note:  On April 1, 1960 this Space Sentry Radar will receive the first photos from the TIROS weather satellite.
