Architectural Feature: Heating Plant for Building 9034
Date: 1943
This masonry structure (Photo No. 85) is rectangular and houses two boilers to heat the former electric shop (9034). The boilers are at basement level and are not in working order. This plant has not been used since possibly 1995 and the possibility of restoring these boilers to working condition is questionable. The west elevation has a concrete block addition for storage (Photo No. 86). The boiler pipes and auxiliary equipment take up the space from basement floor to ceiling. Below grade exterior stairs allow entrance to basement level.

Proposed work
During Phase I, repair oil/gas boilers and evaluate the possibility and feasibility of eliminating the central oil fired boilers. The central system would be replaced by individuals systems in 9034. The conversion would take place when funds allowed. The heating plant could then be used for special exhibits.
