This building was built to support the Silent Sentinel Satellite Dish still connected to the building by conduit (Photo No. 177). The control room equipment and the antenna received the first weather satellite images of cloud formations from satellites over 400 miles above the earth. TIROS I (April 1960) and TIROS II (November 1960) transmitted over 50,000 weather images in seven months. Later the 60-foot dish was under control of the Army Material Command. It is possible the dish was part of Tactical Satellite Command (TACSATCOM) and provided radar early warning protection from Soviet attacks during the Cold War. The antenna also provided tracking support to the Apollo 10 and 11 moon missions. The exterior of the building is in good condition (Photo Nos. 178 - 181).
