Twelve Buckminster Fuller designed DDUs remain at Camp Evans. Examination of 1951 and 1963 aerial photos shows over 50 were in use. Five remain within the historic district, and seven are located at various places outside the District. Each unit is made from pressed corrosion resistant metal panels (Photo No. 144). In the roof is a round ventilation hatch with a pop-up cover (Photo No. 201). Porthole type windows allow light into the unit. A single wood door allows entrance. Each unit is set on a specially formed concrete pad. Some pads have special features such as grooved floors and copper screen embedded into the concrete. DDUs are numbered based upon the closest major building. The single DDU next to 9036D-3 will also be preserved in its place. The DDUs have not been painted in over ten years are beginning to suffer corrosion at points were moisture or weathering has broken paint surfaces.

Proposed work
The three DDUs next to 9011; 9011A-1, 9011A-2 and 9011A-3 will be preserved
in place, in their existing location, along Third Street. As soon
as possible in Phase I prime and repaint DDUs. Repair broken windows
and doors. Determine if electrical connections are still intact and
correct if required. An immediate use is for storage. A potential
future use, post Phase V, is for Scout and/or school group sleep-over events.
Another potential usage would be for unattended exhibits, such as an exhibit
interpreting Buckminster Fullers accomplishments.
