8.55 Architecture Feature: Sentry post at Gate 2 (Building 9135 - relocation)
  Date: 1942

The sentry post at Gate 3 at Sixth Street is a gable roof supported by eight 4" x 4" wood support poles (Photo No. 146).  Attached is a small 5' x 5' guard shack.  The building is in fair condition.  It needs to be repainted.

Proposed work

Relocate the structure to the north side of the Gate 2 entrance (Photo Nos. 10 and 11) in the historic district.  This would be across from the current Gate 2 sentry shack, which is outside the district and is very poor condition. Building 9135 can serve as a ticket and entrance fee collection point for special events.  It will also help keep the "high security" look of the district.
